Late Victorian Sterling Carved Amethyst Pendant & Beads

An absolutely fantastic carved amethyst pendant and faceted amethyst beads from the late Victorian (ca1900) era! This fabulous necklace is comprised of a large amethyst pendant that hangs from a long strand of beads. The oval shaped pendant has faceted edges, a smooth, slightly concave front and a rounded, faceted back. Riveted into the center of the plaque is hand-carved amethyst beetle which has sterling silver legs and antenna. The pendant has a wonderful 3-dimensional look with lovely detail throughout. Riveted into the top of the piece is a sterling bail which connects to the long strand of complimentary amethyst beads. The faceted beads graduate in size with the smaller beads resting towards the clasp. The beads are all hand cut with beautiful facets that catch the light wonderfully when worn. The beads are strung on purple thread and the necklace clasps at the nape. It's a simply magnificent piece and would make any collection complete!

Measurements: The amethyst pendant hangs approximately 1 3/8" long, is 1" wide and about 3/4" thick from the back to front of the beetle. The length of the faceted bead necklace is approximately 27". The amethyst beads range in size from 5/8" wide and 3/8" tall being the smallest to 1" wide and 5/8" tall being the largest.

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the amethyst pendant or to the beetle. Additionally, there is no apparent damage to the purple thread, amethyst beads, silver legs or to the sterling silver details. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
