The Story
During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and brought on what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s and became extremely popular, continuing well into the 1920s. The style was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics.
A fabulous micro mosaic Egyptian Pharaoh pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Tiny tiles with vivid colors of glass have been hand set into the raised image of an Egyptian member of Court, which sits at the center of this piece. The lovely individual has varying shades of blue, green, black, gold and red, with amazing detail. The portrait is framed by a beautiful red and white micro mosaic border. The pendant is set in an 18k yellow gold oval bezel setting. The entire piece hangs from a simple gold bail. This is truly a magnificent piece from the Victorian era and a wonderful example of Egyptian Revival jewelry!
Measurements: The micro mosaic pendant/locket hangs 1 1/8” long and is 3/4” wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. There are a couple small chips in the mosaic design however this does not at all take away from the beauty of the piece. There are some small dents on the side of the gold setting, which are not noticeable when worn.
